After a few years of quiet dilly-dallying, I’m happy to say that DAWN CHORUS is real and there is a playable demo that I can actually upload on the internet.

This one came together to be shown at ALT: GAMES last weekend in Parramatta. I was initially a bit apprehensive and was expecting to be confronted by gamers wanting ‘gameplay’, but it turned out that the crowd was wonderful and full of people who love reading. I ended up having lovely conversations with a whole lot of people, which convinced me to just put this demo online and let other people enjoy it too.

It’s kinda weird that I’ve been ostensibly ‘working’ on this game since 2023 but with this demo you’re looking at maybe… 2 months of work? 3 months? So much of my time so far has been spent just thinking, reading, working on other projects instead… and getting frustrated and falling out of love with this project because I put too much pressure on myself. Ah well. I’ve taken the past year or so to learn how to love DAWN CHORUS again, remember what it was I actually wanted to make, and I feel like I’m getting there.

It turns out if you want to make a game about people slacking off, you have to incorporate that into the very process of the game.
