UPDATE -- continue button and outlinks

Hey, I’ve pushed a little update that adds a ‘>>> CONTINUE’ button at the end of each discrete scene, it’s a small thing but I’m hoping it improves the reading experience even more, basically allowing you to scroll back and re-read those long bits of text before moving on if you so desire.

Other things I’ve added are outlinks in the game. My original vision of DAWN CHORUS was always to make it a piece that is in direct conversation with the real world, and using built-in features of the browser to really lean into the hypertext metafiction of it all just… makes sense. The outlinks all have a (↗) glyph attached so they’re easy to spot. You don’t necessarily have to interact with these, and there’s something funny about doing the thing that’s frowned upon in any sort of commercial context for media that’s meant to ‘capture the audience’s attention’–literally whisking them away from the piece itself… but that’s the beauty of making a game for fun for free with friends. You can just do whatever you want. I’m excited to add a really rabbit hole-like dimension in the full game.

I don’t think I’ll be adding any more updates to this demo unless there’s some real gnarly game-breaking stuff that pops up. I have to focus on the actual full version after all.

Thanks to everyone who’s played the demo so far. I do have to say I especially enjoy the comments/reviews a lot. It can feel very lonely releasing anything on the internet in 2026, so having people actually express their thoughts/enthusiasm/criticism/etc is hugely appreciated, and so much more encouraging to me than just watching a number go up.

Cheers,
Cecile
